An Interactive Record of Italian Migration & Emigration
An Interactive Record of Italian Migration & Emigration
Between the 1860s and the mid-twentieth century, millions of Italians left their homeland in search of something better — work, safety, dignity, opportunity. They crossed oceans and continents, carrying little more than hope, and in doing so gave future generations a life they could never have imagined.
La Diaspora Italiana exists to remember them. This archive maps the journeys of those who departed — from the villages of Sicily to the hills of Molise, from the ports of Genova and Napoli to the cities of the Americas, Australia, and beyond. Each pin on this map is a life. Each record is a story worth preserving.
If you have an ancestor who emigrated from Italy — whether in the great waves of the late 1800s, the post-war years, or any era in between — we invite you to add their story to the archive. Family historians, genealogy researchers, and anyone touched by Italian heritage are welcome to contribute.
To submit a record, search for your ancestor’s town of origin on the map, drop a pin, and fill in what you know. Every detail helps — even incomplete records are a step toward remembrance.
